Welcome Chebucto U9 Families!

Welcome Chebucto U9 Families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and are excited to get back on the ice for another great hockey season!

I wanted to reach out with some season startup info and to introduce myself; most of you know me but for those of you who do not, my name is Stacy Forgeron and I have been a Chebucto mom for 4 years now, involved in U7 - U11 programs and this will be my second season as VP of U9, at the board level, continuing to ensure a great season for our up and coming hockey stars.

We're very fortunate to have Paul Hunt back as our association's technical director; Paul spent a lot of time on the ice with many of our players last season and knows most of them by name. Paul is always available, as am I, if you ever have questions or concerns in relation to the minor hockey program at Chebucto.

There are 2 reference documents posted on the Chebucto website under the top ribbon, Tryouts & Evaluations, 2025 U9 Evaluations; link below:

Please give these documents a read for more info on what to expect. They are guidelines only and based on prior years, slight changes and variations to process are possible from year to year, season to season.

Pre-season sessions started yesterday, Sept 3rd and runs throughout September. This was a separate registration and cost, it was optional.

The season will start Saturday Sept 27th; all players will be assigned one session between 9:30am - 12:30pm at the Civic, which is prior to evaluations. This ensures they have a chance to lace up and get back on the ice before evaluations the following day. Groupings and times for these sessions, and the NSST evaluations will be posted closer to the date, once registration closes and groups are confirmed.

Evaluations are scheduled for:
 - Sunday Sept 28th between 9:30-1:30 at the Civic - NSST timed drills
 - Thursday Oct. 2nd 6-7pm at Lions Rink. NOTE: Select players will be called back for a battle drill session to better refine placements. Not all players will be required to attend this session, those required to attend will be notified after the Sunday Sept 28th sessions.

All returning hockey players are strongly encouraged to attend evaluations, both 1st and 2nd year U9 players, however if a player is brand new to hockey or skating they are encouraged to skip evaluations and be placed directly into the developmental grouping. If your player is brand new please reach out to let me know you are 'opting out'.

You may have read that Chebucto has closed tryouts this season, that does not apply for U9, U9 is evaluations, not tryouts. We do however need a tonne of volunteers for the evaluation process, so if you're able to help out in any capacity (several off-ice roles required) please reach out.

Goalie evaluations are separate and will be held on Sept 20th, 5-6pm at the Civic, separate communication will be sent based on registrations. Only those who are full time goalies are expected to attend goalie evaluations, part-time goalies, or those with goalie interest should be evaluated as a player and then let me know your player is interested in goalie for team balancing.

Our aim is to have player placements and team configurations announced by Oct 4th along with practice dates and times.
Coaches/volunteers and balancing of teams take a bit longer to coordinate and firm up but our aim is for teams to be determined by Oct 10th at the latest and associated team practice schedules will be available thereafter. Games schedules will come later in Oct/Nov once the league games are determined. U9 games do not start until Dec, prior to that it's practices only.

If you have not yet registered your player for U9, please do so ASAP as we need final numbers for planning - registration closes Sept 15th.

As mentioned above, if you have interest in volunteering during evaluations or during the season, and did not indicate so on registration or the coaches interest survey back in July, please reach out to me directly at u9@chebuctominorhockey.com.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

GO CHEBUCTO GO!

Cheers,
Stacy

Welcome to the CMHA 25-26 Season

Dear Chebucto Families,

On behalf of the Chebucto Minor Hockey Association, I’d like to welcome everyone back for another exciting season of hockey. Whether you’re returning for another year or joining us for the first time, we’re thrilled to have you as part of the Chebucto community.

The season is already off to a strong start with the securing of U9 jersey sponsorships, the return of our sponsorship with Pro Hockey Life, and the entry of four teams into the early Jordan Boyd Tournament, with our executive working to secure early entry for at least one further team in a separate tournament event.

This year also marks the return of Paul Hunt as Technical Director, who has agreed to a new three-year term. Paul has been busy leading summer development, organizing a nearly sold out pre-season program, and working with our Competition Committee to prepare a detailed tryout process. Please stand by for a separate communication with full information on tryouts. All Tryouts this year will be closed with the exception of exhibition games. To ensure you don’t miss out please sign up for expression of interest to volunteer. Details on volunteer signups will be coming out soon so stay tuned.

We are also pleased to share that CMHA has secured a new ice scheduling tool, “Skeeda.” We believe this platform will make scheduling easier and more transparent for our teams and managers, while giving families greater visibility. Most importantly, it will help us ensure that when ice is available, our CMHA players are on it and using it. This will be very important this year as ice availability in HRM continues to be extremely challenging.

In addition, we have transitioned our player evaluation software from Team Genius to Gray Jay, a move that has reduced costs and supports a local Nova Scotia business.

We are also introducing a new complaint resolution process to make handling concerns more structured, consistent, and fair. This will help ensure that any issues are addressed in a timely and respectful manner.

These early successes are a great example of how our community and supporters continue to step up to make Chebucto Minor Hockey stronger every season.

We would also like to take a moment to thank all of our outgoing executives and volunteers for their contributions to CMHA, and to welcome our new executives and volunteers who are stepping into important roles this season. At this time, the Executive positions of VP-Administration and Equipment Manager remain open. We encourage anyone interested in helping shape the future of CMHA to reach out and get involved.

This year I would like to ask our membership to reflect on working together to develop not only hockey skills, but strong character. Just as the Atlantics symbol, the lighthouse, shines steadily whether or not anyone is watching, true character is reflected in how we act both on and off the ice toward our teammates and those around us, in public and in private, whether our coaches are watching or not. At CMHA, this also means creating an inclusive, supportive environment where bullying has no place — where we pick each other up instead of dragging down. Our goal is for every CMHA player to carry themselves with respect, integrity, responsibility, and a caring for others, building a reputation for both strong hockey and strong character, where a CMHA team is a place of safety and encouraging support from your coaches, players, and teammates to push yourself to be the best version of you that you can be.

If you’re a player, be the best teammate on your team and someone who even the other teams respect, positively encouraging your teammates to give it their all. If you’re a parent, be an example of class, respect, and enjoyment of the game as opposed to anger , criticism and frustration. If you’re a coach or volunteer, be that role model, great organizational teammate, and positive influence for those around you.

Again, none of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers. From coaches and team managers to those helping at tryouts and tournaments, your time and energy are the backbone of our association. As always If you’re interested in getting involved this year, we always welcome more hands to help.

We remain committed to open communication. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for important updates, schedules, and news throughout the season. And of course, never hesitate to reach out with questions.

I encourage our players to focus on enjoying the game, respecting teammates and opponents, and building lasting friendships both on and off the ice. That’s what hockey is truly about.

Here’s to a safe, fun, and successful 2025–26 season. I look forward to seeing you all at the rink!

Sincerely,
Bryan Esbaugh
