President's Message 2021-2022 Season

President Message 2021-22 Season

Welcome to all new and returning members to the Chebucto Minor Hockey Association (“CMHA”) for the 2021-2022 minor hockey season. We have been very busy over the summer getting things ready and have lot of news to share.

We have just completed our pre-season development and it was a huge success, many thanks to Ja-red Glazebrook, VP Development for organizing and to Bryan Esbaugh, VP Risk Management & Association Safety Rep for making sure everything adhered to Safety Protocols. I would also like to thank all of the volunteers that screened, monitored dressing rooms and helped on the ice. Without you, these sessions would not happen.

I am very excited to finally be able to share details for our upcoming season and hope we can make this an enjoyable experience for our players and families. Spectator Policy for CMHA and Vaccination policy

CMHA will not be allowing spectators for the Competitive Tryouts, Recreation & U9 Balancing sessions. U7 information will follow as soon as possible.

The responsibility of tracking, registering and policing all spectators in arenas is the requirement of the renter, ie. Chebucto Minor Hockey Association. While we have been following this practice and feel confident with it, we now have an added layer with the new Vaccination Policy to consider.( to view policy-click here) We have a good process in place managing the players/coaches , and we will be keeping our focus strictly on the players and the evaluation processes during the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, please note that CMHA will be working with Safety Reps to have a spectator plan in place for the remainder of the season following the tryouts and balancing sessions. We understand this may not be a popular decision but the decision was not taken lightly. The Board voted and unanimously agreed that we are doing this for the players experience, the focus on the tryout/ pre season recreation process and to make sure we have what we need in place for a safe return.

You may have read the recent email about Vaccination Proof that was sent out. Please read it and provide info to Bryan, VP Risk Management , you can find the info HERE.

With today’s announcement we are to follow a Modified Phase 5 . Please DO NOT come to the rink if you are sick or have symptoms. Please self assess before coming to the rink. Please click here for screening tool.

What to expect when coming to the Lions Rink:

  • Players will check in with the Safety Rep in the lobby 15 min before their session.
  •  Players are required to wear a mask to enter and exit the arena, they can remove the mask once in the dressing       room just before putting on their helmet prior to session.
  •  Our mask policy will remain the same as it was in Phase 4: On the ice, masks are not required during practices, training sessions, and games. Off the ice, masks will be required. Please note that coaches and instructors who work with more than one group must wear a mask at all times while inside the facility (including while on the ice)
  • Players must arrive fully dressed including skates, if they are not able to dress and tie their skates on their own. If a player is able to dress and tie their own skates, then a dressing room will be available 15 min prior to ice time.
  • All players must enter through the main doors and exit through the side doors located between the bleachers.
  • When in the rink, all players must remain in the dressing room until the Zamboni is done cleaning the ice. This allows the players to leave the ice and limit contact around the exits. All Volunteers – please enforce this rule…this allows less contact among players when exiting the ice surface. This also means you…you must also be in the dressing room, not outside the door.
  • Once the ice time is complete, players must leave within 15 minutes

Please visit our website for contact information for all Board Members, if you have a question about a certain division/topic- please reach out to the appropriate Board Member.

This season we have introduced Coordinator positions, please see below for details. These crucial roles will help us with all processes through the tryouts, rec balancing and season tasks…many thanks for volunteering. All contact information is on our new website powered by GrayJay. Visit us HERE

This is a stressful time for the kids, back to school and parents and families navigating through all of the Covid information. We want the process from start to finish to be a positive one. We are all dealing with a lot of changes and different protocols that tend to take over our lives and bring out a negative response…. Let’s change this and keep the focus on our Chebucto Players. We want them to have fun!

More details and updates about our season will be out after Tryouts and Recreation Pre Season.

PS- 50/50 will begin as soon as teams are formed. We will be using Rafflebox, same as last year.

We do not have a subscribe option for our website yet, it is in the works, please share this message with members you think may have missed it, and visit us on Facebook and Twitter

All the best to our Chebucto players as they move into a new season!

I really do appreciate all your patience and understanding as we navigate through all of the Public Health, HNS and Facility updates. We are all working very hard to get this season on the way…. I’m looking forward to a Great 2021-2022 Season!

Proof of Vaccination Rollout - COVID Safety Reminder

Hi Chebucto Members,

In accordance with upcoming provincial direction we are beginning our collection of proof of vaccine.

Please read the following rollout documentation:

Proof of Vaccination Rollout

This can also be found under the Risk Management Section of the "Policies" section of the site.

REMINDER: all email proof of vaccination should go to:

risk.management@chebuctominorhockey.com

Also -- IMPORTANT

As we enter the tryout phases we must be vigilant to continue respecting the Phase 4 COVID protocols specifically about indoor masks. During the development period we needed to constantly remind players to keep masks on in the dressing room until they were ready to step onto the ice.

If you are a parent please have a discussion with your player on the importance of this and continuing to follow this practice particularly for those in age groups who are unable to get vaccinated (i.e. U13 and younger).

In cases where we have repeat offenders identified that will not follow safety policies, either through inattention or apathy, these cases will be escalated to the Executive for potential discipline under violation of our Safety policies.

We all need to do our part to keep our membership safe. The most likely vector of transmission is from an unmasked individual to another.

Message from Tryout Committee - Competitive Tryout Schedule and Information

Hello Chebucto families,

With tryouts just around the corner, the tryout committee is working very hard to get things ready to go for the start of another successful year of competitive hockey in Chebucto. As a reminder, with Hockey Nova Scotia’s Rebound Plan, tryouts cannot begin before October 1. While many components are still in the final phases of planning, we did want to provide some important information to help families plan for what will be a busy week.

Please see link below for  Phase 1 of  the Tryout Schedule

2021 Tryout Schedule Final _Competitive

 FAQ’s

  •  Where will tryouts take place?

All tryouts will take place at the Lions Rink in Spryfield.

  •  What COVID protocols are in place for tryouts?

COVID protocols, including those around vaccinations, are still being determined and will be communicated as quickly as possible.

  • Will spectators be allowed in the rink?

Spectators will not be permitted in the rink. Only players, evaluators, tryout committee members, volunteers, and rink staff will be allowed to enter the building.

  • What time should players arrive?

Players will be permitted to enter the rink 15 minutes prior to their designated time , so please plan accordingly. If a player requires assistance with equipment/ skates, there will be dressing room monitors available for all levels of play.

  •   Will the entire tryout schedule be posted?

No. Players and parents will receive times for their initial tryout sessions no later than 9:00 PM Monday, September 27. At this time, we will also indicate the other blocks of time the specific age groups have assigned for the rest of the tryout schedule.  It does not mean the player will be on the ice for all of them, however, we hope it will help you plan for the tryout period. After the initial sessions, players will be re-grouped a number of times and these groupings will be posted as quickly as possible during the tryout process. If players can be informed of multiple session times, this will be provided.

  • Who should I reach out to with questions?

If you have any questions prior to, or during the tryout process, please reach out to the following email: chebuctotryoutcommittee@gmail.com   . This will put you in contact with Cathy Delbridge, our ombudsperson, who will be acting as a liaison between the tryout committee and the members.

  •  What can we expect during tryouts?

Please refer to the Competitive Tryout Policy document found on our website, at:

https://chebuctominorhockey.com/uploads/chebuctomha/source/0/Try%20Outs/Competitive%202021-2022%20Tryout%20Process_%20final.pdf

  •  Why is the schedule compressed this year?

Due to the fact that we are unable to start until October 1st, timelines are very tight. This schedule will align with other association’s timelines, limit impacts on families and volunteers, and allow us to start practicing prior to the season start date.

  •  How many competitive teams will there be at each age level?

This is something that the tryout committee will be looking at as the tryout process progresses and will be   communicated to the membership as soon as possible.

We hope that all players are excited to get things underway, and we look forward to seeing them on the ice for tryouts. In closing, we would like to share the following message:

Frustrations arise every year throughout the tryout process. The process is not perfect and not an exact science – there will be multiple opinions on the relative talent within a group of individuals.  Please keep in mind that every effort is in place to deliver a fair evaluation to ensure that the players are placed on the most appropriate team, which will allow them to develop into better hockey players and, most importantly, on a team where they will have fun.

Thank you,

Chebucto Minor Hockey Tryout Committee
